
Executive Summary of ActivityFiscal Year July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011Business and Workforce Development · The EDC applied a $48,000 grant from the Riverside County EDA Workforce Investment Board for a Regional Site Visitation Program to the creation of a comprehensive database and profiling of over 600 area businesses. · The EDC partnered with the Southwest Community Development Organization on preparing a goals document/brochure and certificate program for area students to highlight workforce readiness skills needed to be hired. Implementation and distributed of results to be fall school semester. Business Retention/Expansion
· The EDC Resource Team held 10 monthly meetings and completed 87 business retention visits and/or contacts to regional businesses. Committee members responded to 6 requests for assistance as a direct result of business retention visits. · The EDC facilitate a Connectory Call Center during the month of July in which over 30 volunteers assisted in the population of the Southwest California Portal on the CONNECTORY.com website database with over 400 innovative asset / support services businesses. · EDC employed two full-time employees. · EDC Board of Directors streamlined the goals and objectives for the EDC Strategic Plan for Regional Economic Development. A verifiable action plan was proposed to help expand and grow regional businesses and to address the current economic development needs of the region's business community. · EDC Committees include: 1) EDC Technology Group (meets 1st Tuesday of Month); 2) EDC Membership/Marketing Committee (meets 2nd Wednesday of the Month); 3) EDC Resource Team (meets the 1st Thursday of the Month); 4) EDC Southwest California Connected Program Committee (meets as needed); and 8 ad-hoc committees that meet on an as needed basis. · The EDC was the lead organization on the 3rd Annual Southwest California Business Summit held at the Temecula Civic Center on April 27, 2011. It was collaboration between the five regional cities, their chambers of commerce, the area school districts, MSJC, and the utilities. The event brought together over 240 attendees and participants for a day of procurement and education.
